About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer Energy to join our Nuclear Energy Team. This is an entry-level position based out of Richland, WA.

Key Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Engineer Energy, you will be responsible for initiating and developing mechanical equipment designs. You will use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform assignments. You will take mechanical systems from concept through to commissioning and testing, applying intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments. You will make decisions independently on complex engineered systems, commensurate with experience and seniority.

  • Perform a variety of engineering calculations using traditional engineering methods to document compliance with project and code requirements, which may include stress calculations, limits and fits and equipment sizing.
  • Generate and be fully conversant with drawings, layout drawings, arrangement, assembly and detail drawings, specifications and data sheets.
  • Assist in the preparation and approval of design documents and plant modifications, including supervision of designers in document development in accordance with approved procedures, processes and design requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to develop, manage and implement engineering analysis, activities and programs to identify and resolve equipment and system problems.
  • Familiar with national codes and standards appropriate to the Mechanical Engineering discipline.
  • Ensure relevant design criteria, specifications, practices, procedures and codes and site design and safety and licensing basis are used in preparation of design media.
  • Interface with staff, within the team and supporting sub-contractors to ensure work is completed in a safe and efficient manner, ensuring that safety is an integral element embodied in equipment design and specification.
  • Work in multi-discipline teams on project-based work and ensure integration of design across multiple disciplines.
  • Perform checking to ensure accuracy of design media in accordance with company policies and procedures and client expectations.
  • Work to assigned schedules ensuring the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of work and initiate corrective measures to overcome delays.
  • Understand, comply and be responsible for working to environmental health and safety policies and procedures and attend meetings as required.
  • Provide supervision and leadership to members of the design team, commensurate with seniority.
  • Recommend new equipment, concepts and techniques to improve performance, simplify design, reduce costs, correct design flaws or to comply with changes in client requirements, codes or regulations.
  • Perform independent research, reviews, studies and analyses in support of plant changes and design modifications.
  • Support installation and testing of site systems and components.
  • Participate in the preparation of cost estimates for engineering services to internal and external clients and coordinate work assignments to meet project-established schedules and budgets.
  • Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines.
  • Works under close supervision.
  • Does not typically exercise independent judgment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements and Desirable Skills

  • Basic communication skills
  • Intermediate computer skills, including the use of Mechanical Equipment design software and Microsoft Office
  • Basic knowledge of functional discipline and its practical application
  • Basic knowledge of industry codes and regulations
  • Testing prototypical system (desired)
  • Nuclear power experience (desired)
  • Vitrification and/or glass making experience (desired)
Qualifications

  • EXPERIENCE: 1-2 year of experience preferred
  • EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree required in Mechanical engineering or related technical degree or equivalent
  • SPECIAL SKILLS: None
  • PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS: None required; Engineer-In-Training (EIT), with ability to gain Professional Engineering License preferred

Expected compensation range is between $62,000-$103,000 annually depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
