Role Summary

Nationwide IT Services (NIS) is actively seeking a knowledgeable Subject Matter Expert (SME) to enhance our government team in managing the integrity and sustainability of our current enterprise storage framework, as well as to facilitate the adoption of advanced technologies and industry best practices.


Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver expert insights on IT storage vendors utilized by DLA, including but not limited to Hitachi, NetApp, Brocade, and various cloud-based solutions such as Azure Storage and AWS Storage.
  • Conduct evaluations of major storage and backup vendors, providing detailed reporting solutions.
  • Research and assess alternative vendor solutions and technologies, becoming a recognized authority on any storage and monitoring solutions implemented by DLA.
  • Offer proficient technical support and administration in Storage Area Network (SAN) management, adhering to best practices.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement enhancements and best practices to optimize technologies for the needs of government mission partners.
  • Generate comprehensive documentation outlining the current and future capabilities of the storage and backup environment.
  • Provide training and education to storage personnel regarding storage and backup technologies.
  • Conduct System Security Risk Assessments, Quarterly Training Reports, System Optimization Assessments, and Vendor Reviews.
  • Support System Administration tasks, including security storage and backup networks.
  • Administer the creation, testing, implementation, and removal of backup policies for various DLA systems, including Windows, UNIX, and Linux.
  • Install, configure, and decommission physical and virtual appliances and servers for DLA backup operations, ensuring efficient file and system restoration.
  • Collaborate with external vendors, internal DLA teams, end users, and application owners to mitigate and resolve storage and backup system outages.
  • Participate in after-hours support as needed.

Required Qualifications
  • Proficiency in Veritas NetBackup 10.x and above, Veritas NetBackup Appliance, Veritas IT Analytics, Azure Recovery Services, AWS Backup, and other cloud storage technologies.
  • A minimum of 2 years in an advisory or managerial role supporting DOD or Federal enterprise infrastructure.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in enterprise SAN management, including technologies such as Fiber Channel zoning, iSCSI, and RAID.
  • A minimum of 3 years of direct experience with Department of Defense (DoD) IT systems.
