Position Overview

We provide a merit-based remote work program contingent on job responsibilities. Following initial in-person training, this role may allow for up to 3 days of remote work each week.

Auto-Owners Insurance, a highly regarded insurance provider, is looking for an enthusiastic underwriting trainee to join our organization. This position involves applying insurance coverage, regulations, and guidelines to facilitate the underwriting decision-making process in line with the Company's underwriting philosophy. The role includes comprehensive training and development through the completion of the Company's underwriter training program for the designated line of insurance and requires the individual to:

  • Understand various insurance coverages and contracts along with company policies and procedures to make informed underwriting decisions.
  • Interpret and respond to documents such as policies, manuals, forms, and endorsements to grasp their implications and applications.
  • Gather information, formulate opinions, and articulate decisions using sound reasoning and judgment.
  • Evaluate loss history, financial conditions, and physical characteristics of risks.
  • Gain a foundational understanding of supporting sections within the underwriting department.
  • Communicate effectively with independent agents and other team members through verbal and written communication.
  • Engage in and successfully complete the Company’s underwriter training program.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in property/casualty underwriting.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to multitask, and make independent decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in report writing and correspondence composition.
  • Aptitude for resolving complex issues.
  • Commitment to ongoing product knowledge development through participation in approved educational programs.
