Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Metal Fabrication Press Operator is tasked with examining component blueprints and configuring as well as operating brake press machinery. This role involves inputting bend measurements and deductions tailored to various sheet metal gauges. An ideal candidate will possess strong mathematical abilities, particularly in converting measurements (e.g., transforming 3 1⁄4" into 3.25"), and will have the capacity to mentally visualize a 3-dimensional object before executing bends on flat materials, akin to conceptualizing a paper airplane prior to its assembly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • This is a safety-sensitive role.
  • Configure and operate machinery including brakes, rollers, shears, saws, and presses.
  • Interpret blueprints, part schematics, and engineering specifications.
  • Conduct mathematical computations.
  • Familiarize with the brake press controller and modify bend programs as necessary.
  • Handle metal components weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Perform minor repairs and adjustments on machinery, alerting supervisors for major maintenance needs.
  • Ensure cleanliness in the designated workspace.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols.
  • Assist other departments as required.
  • Carry out additional tasks as directed by the Shop Supervisor.
  • Other responsibilities may be assigned to align with business objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Understanding of machinery and tools, including their design, application, and upkeep.
  • Strong time management capabilities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational abilities.
  • Basic proficiency in mathematics.
  • Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
  • Able to collaborate effectively with colleagues and suppliers.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Trained in lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in metal bending manufacturing.
  • At least one (1) year of relevant experience.
