Job Summary

The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is responsible for utilizing advanced diagnostic equipment to capture high-quality images of the human body for diagnostic purposes. This role requires a strong understanding of medical imaging principles and the ability to operate complex equipment with precision and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reviews patient medical history and physician instructions to ensure accurate and effective imaging procedures
  • Prepares and operates diagnostic equipment, selecting appropriate settings to capture high-quality images
  • Explains procedures to patients, records relevant medical history, and directs patients to optimal positions for imaging
  • Applies gel to the skin to facilitate sound wave transmission and operates equipment to direct non-ionizing sound waves into the body
  • Views images on the screen, identifying healthy and unhealthy areas, and selects images for physician review and diagnosis
  • Takes measurements, calculates values, and analyzes results in preliminary reports for physicians
  • Maintains patient records, adjusts and maintains equipment, and ensures confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Complies with safety, infection control, and quality improvement policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Technical Capabilities

This role requires a strong understanding of medical imaging principles and the ability to operate complex equipment with precision and accuracy. The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer must be able to analyze moderately complex problems using technical experience and judgment.

Position Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of medical imaging principles and the ability to operate complex equipment with precision and accuracy. A graduate of an approved discipline-specific program and relevant work experience are required.
