Position Overview

We currently operate in two Divisions: OMG Roofing Products and FastenMaster. OMG Roofing Products is a leading global manufacturer and supplier of value-added components for the commercial roofing industry. The FastenMaster Division manufactures and markets innovative, premium quality wood-to-wood fasteners that are engineered to enable professional contractors to complete building projects safer, faster, and easier.

This key position supports the development of our products and private label customers through the codes and testing process.

This role also supports the Roofing Sales team by broadening the technical product knowledge of our field resources and providing accurate and timely responses to in-field technical questions.

The Technical Service Specialist helps New Product Development Innovation (NPDI) expand our product lines. The position requires a strong understanding of construction materials and commercial roofing applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote Safety as the Number One priority of all employees.
  • Utilize structured communication process to respond to technical product questions and resolve product performance challenges.
  • Support product development and private label customers through small and large scale uplift testing on and offsite.
  • Enhance the technical product knowledge of the Sales Team to enable them to respond to common questions with greater confidence and accuracy, improving the response time to the end user and improving customer satisfaction.
  • Support NPDI with data on product performance and common applications gained by understanding the codes and testing product approvals process.
  • Manage field pull test approvals and equipment for outsides sales team.
  • Manage projects within budget and in a manner which achieves goals and deadlines.
  • Generate useful content for products and field applications, including tool repair walk-throughs, schematics, and videos.
  • Communicate regularly with team and manager regarding open inquiries and projects.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and work experience (Associates' or Bachelors' Degree preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in technical support position, preferably in construction and/or supporting commercial construction products.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information verbally and in writing in a manner which is understandable to non-technical resources, including customers.
  • Demonstrated success identifying issues and generating creative solutions, using feedback to modify plans.
  • Experience developing and executing project plans, communicating changes and progress and completing projects on time and budget.
  • Demonstrated success contributing as part of a team.
  • Ability to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance; and regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
  • Good close vision and depth perception skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as drawings, specifications, operating manuals and compliance materials.
  • Proficiency with all Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Positive attitude, good judgment and excellent time management skills.
  • Strong sense of responsibility and ownership.
