As a Pharmaceutical Specialist with USA Health, you will play a crucial role in enhancing clinical outcomes and ensuring the highest level of pharmaceutical care.

Job Summary

This position involves assisting in pharmaceutical activities, monitoring medication use, participating in studies, and improving pharmaceutical care and clinical outcomes. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, be able to work effectively in a team environment, and demonstrate a commitment to delivering exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in pharmaceutical activities and functions related to medication use and monitoring for all patient care areas.
  • Participate in studies, quality monitors, and drug evaluations to improve pharmaceutical care and clinical outcomes.
  • Perform patient care activities on the pharmacy computer system in a safe and timely manner.
  • Utilize a personal computer or terminal to access the Hospital Information System or the Pharmacy Purchasing System.
  • Perform general pharmacy duties as needed by filling and dispensing medications.
  • Prepare and dispense IV solutions and compounds medications including Chemotherapy.
  • Dispense controlled substances as defined by the controlled substance permit.
  • Confirm accuracy of work performed by pharmacy technician, including unit dose carts.
  • Review physician's orders for appropriate route, dose, scheduling, and potential drug interactions and consults physicians as needed.
  • Serve as a resource for medical and nursing staff regarding pharmaceutical activities.
  • Provide information on medications for patients as needed.
  • Encourage pharmacy and physician staff to use Formulary medications.
  • Communicate and use appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families, and healthcare team in person and via telephone.
  • Respond to overhead pages.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records.
  • Utilize the correct documentation tools and procedures for all pharmacy functions.
  • Maintain proper records for all medications and controlled substances dispensed or received.
  • Accept and complete all duties positively and without conflict.
  • Cooperate, help others, and improve the performance of the department.
  • Complete all mandatory department, educational, and hospital requirements.
  • Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of work areas, equipment, and supply areas.
  • Abide by and enforce all compliance requirements and policies and perform these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization's values.
  • Adhere to hospital policies including confidentiality.
  • Train and orients new pharmacy employees to the department and their job functions.
  • Safely perform essential functions with minimum supervision.
  • Utilize proper body mechanics when moving equipment and supplies that is necessary to perform essential functions.
  • Maintain and operate equipment and report broken or malfunctioning equipment.
  • Adhere to current Infection control and safety standards.
  • Utilize cost-effective practices in performing all aspects of the job.
  • Demonstrate the ability to provide competent patient care to Neonate, Infant-Toddler/Preschool, School age/Adolescent, Reproductive age, and Post/Peri Menopausal patient population.
  • Participate on committees as assigned.
  • Performance improvement activities through quality measurement or participation of ICARE process as assigned.
  • Access and accurately maintain electronic and paper medical records.
  • Regular and prompt attendance and the ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
Requirements
  • Graduation from a recognized school of Pharmacy as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama.
  • Licensure with the State of Alabama to practice pharmacy.
  • Controlled Substances certificate.
  • Completion of an approved Alabama Board of Pharmacy IV certification program within three months of employment.
Salary Range

The estimated salary range for this position is $95,000 - $110,000 per year, based on industry standards and location.
