Job Summary

This position is responsible for overseeing the coordination and execution of geotechnical project testing services. The Senior Geotechnical Engineer applies engineering principles and practices to complex problems, directing project teams on multi-disciplinary projects while training and mentoring team members. Key responsibilities include geotechnical evaluations, design applications, and field data collection and analysis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage complex projects and direct project teams on multi-disciplinary projects, including client interaction, work scheduling, and budget management.
  • Perform engineering observations and judgments of geostructural activities, including high-risk projects.
  • Prepare formal geotechnical engineering reports, including recommendations.
  • Coordinate and assign staff to perform field testing.
  • Critically review, edit, and sign technical reports and correspondence of other staff.
  • Prepare proposals and perform marketing/business development duties to meet established department and company goals.
  • Represent American Engineering Testing by presenting ideas, solutions, and innovative advancements to clients, peer groups, public audiences, and regulatory agencies.
  • Anticipate, recognize, and manage risk/liability while working on projects.
  • Maintain AET's productivity standards and provide quality of service and work product that meets or exceeds expectations.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or geological engineering with 10 or more years of related experience, or an advanced degree in civil (geotechnical or related) engineering with 8 or more years of related experience.
  • Professional engineering registration in North America, with ability to obtain registration in other states as required.
  • Strong geotechnical analysis and design skills, as well as strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Proven project management experience and ability to work in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative.
  • Flexible working style to meet deadlines and client needs, with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Skills
  • Master's or PhD degree in geotechnical engineering.
  • Experience working in consulting engineering, with strong relationships with clients and ability to develop or foster ongoing relationships and maintain high client service.
Work Environment

This job operates in a professional work environment, with occasional work in locations featuring rough terrain typical of construction sites and limited accessibility.
