Optical Communications Specialist

Job Summary:
The Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State University is seeking a highly skilled Optical Communications Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Electro-Optics Center, you will be responsible for performing research and development tasks in optical communications, communicating and documenting results in reports and presentations, and assisting with the development of proposals for projects.
Responsibilities:
- Perform research and development tasks in optical communications
- Communicate and document results in reports and presentations
- Assist with development of proposals for projects
- Lead project efforts
Requirements:
- Master's Degree in an Engineering or Science discipline
- Five years related experience for the advanced professional level
- Two years or more experience in guided (fiber), free-space or under-sea optical communications
- Familiar with communication architectures, systems, protocols, devices, media, and integration
Preferred Qualifications:
- A Master's degree in Engineering, Physics, Optics, or a related field
- Significant development of communication architectures, systems, protocols, devices, media, and integration
- Aware of current progress and advanced experience in optical propagation, laser communications systems and subsystems, associated transceivers and waveforms
