Gana-A'Yoo Services Corporation (GSC) is recognized for its commitment to excellence in service delivery, performance, and customer satisfaction, particularly in the realms of Food Service, Janitorial Services, and Administrative Services. GSC plays a vital role in supporting the National Science Foundation's United States Antarctic Program under the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) and is currently in search of a Lead Baker at McMurdo Station.
As the Lead Baker, your primary responsibility will be to create high-quality, large-scale breads and/or desserts and pastries as directed by the Sous Chef (Bakery) or Food Service Supervisor. You will also be tasked with maintaining clean and sanitary work areas, equipment, and tools while assisting the Sous Chef (Bakery) and other team members as needed.
POSITION: Lead Baker
SEASON: Austral Winter
LOCATION: McMurdo Station, Antarctica
DEPARTMENT: Gana-A'Yoo Services Corporation (GSC) Antarctica
SALARY: $729 - $812 per week
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Act as shift leader in the absence of the Sous Chef (Bakery), with all other tasks performed under their supervision.
- Prepare all assigned menu items for primary and satellite locations, ensuring adherence to proper baking techniques and maintaining food quality.
- Ensure proper labeling and dating of food items, while efficiently utilizing leftovers.
- Follow standardized recipes and develop high-volume recipes as required.
- Adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures and responsibilities of the food services department.
- Maintain sanitation standards across work areas, cold and hot storage, and service areas.
- Utilize and clean equipment and tools in a timely manner.
- Comply with all safety and sanitation standards in kitchen and service areas.
- Coordinate with Stewards for the timely transfer and cleaning of dirty pots.
- Exhibit leadership, effective communication, and organizational skills.
- Work collaboratively within a diverse team environment.
- Demonstrate self-motivation in physically demanding and unique working conditions.
- Maintain flexibility and a positive attitude in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.
- Support Infrastructure and Operations Division metrics as directed by supervisors.
- Contribute to the achievement of ASC metrics through work activities.
- Comply with all Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements.
- Work towards achieving ASC goals and contractual commitments.
- Stand for extended periods as required.
- Lift items up to the maximum safety regulation limit safely.
- Perform additional duties as necessary.
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
- Current ServSafe Food Handler certificate required prior to deployment.
- Valid driver's license is necessary.
- Must possess a valid U.S. Passport.
EXPERIENCE:
- At least two years of experience baking a variety of products in a commercial environment.
- Preferred experience in high-volume bread production.
- Previous experience in Food Services in Antarctica may substitute for minimum experience requirements.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is mandatory.
- Successful completion of a Tier 1 - Elevated Background Investigation (EBI) is a prerequisite for employment.
