Position – Financial Reporting Supervisor

Position Summary:
The individual in this position will be responsible for overseeing the creation of financial statements, disclosures, and related SEC documentation. This role will manage technical accounting inquiries and contribute to accounting for specialized areas such as derivatives, leases, pensions, or stock-based compensation. The supervisor will serve as a subject matter expert on SEC, FASB, and similar regulatory requirements. The individual will evaluate the accounting implications of new regulations, business practices, and developments, coordinate their implementation, and assist in formulating policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership, direction, coaching, and oversight for financial reporting and corporate accounting within the corporate controller's group.
- Guide overall matters related to the financial reporting team.
- Empower team members by assigning appropriate levels of responsibility and authority to foster learning, growth, and decision-making aligned with departmental goals.
- Maintain the highest standards of integrity and trust, focusing on self-improvement, staying updated on current information and technology, and ensuring knowledge of regulatory requirements to enhance innovation and compliance.
- Build strong relationships within the corporate controller's group and other departments through effective communication across management levels.
- Encourage a matrix organizational structure, promoting cross-communication and collaboration among teams and departments.
Financial Statements and Disclosures:
- Oversee the preparation of SEC filings related to financial statements and operations, including annual 10-K, quarterly 10-Qs, and periodic 8-Ks for earnings releases and other required events. Ensure financial statements and disclosures comply with the requirements of authoritative organizations such as the SEC, FASB, and IASB.
- Manage the lease system to develop disclosures of lease obligations, including information collection from operating departments, reviewing lease contracts, and analyzing expenses or capitalization.
- Supervise accounting requirements related to benefit plans, including financial statements and other relevant matters.
- Prepare financial statements for selected domestic and international subsidiaries.
Compliance and Audit:
- Monitor new and revised reporting rules and regulations, maintaining a working knowledge of all accounting and reporting pronouncements from the SEC, FASB, and similar organizations.
- Analyze the impact of accounting, reporting, and disclosure pronouncements, assist with their implementation, and support the development of policies and procedures for compliance.
- Conduct research and analysis of specific business developments and reporting issues as they arise, summarizing results for management, including joint ventures and due diligence efforts related to potential acquisitions.
Technical Accounting Areas:
- Take responsibility for, or assist as needed with, accounting for areas that have significant technical accounting implications, such as stock-based compensation, derivatives, leases, retirement benefits, and deferred compensation plans.
- Support periodic calculations of basic and diluted earnings per share, including required EPS disclosures.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assist Senior Management across the Company on various projects as needed.
- Enhance analytical skills across the finance team.
- Initiate, research, and document improvements to current methods and procedures.
- Perform or direct special projects as assigned.
- Investigate and implement process changes to strengthen internal controls and ensure efficient processing of department transactions.
Internal Controls:
- Understand and comply with established departmental processes and procedures designed to support internal control efforts. Identify and report any internal control deficiencies to department management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- CPA certification.
- At least 8 to 10 years of combined work experience in public accounting and private industry, including 3 to 5 years of significant reporting experience.
- A comprehensive understanding of financial reporting rules and regulations, with the ability to apply business and financial concepts.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with SAP systems is a plus.
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of management in a deadline-oriented environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
