Position: Legal Counsel Assistant
About the Organization:
- Our esteemed client, a prominent non-profit organization, is seeking to enhance their legal team with a Legal Counsel Assistant.
- Location: Annapolis, MD. Typical Schedule: 8am-5pm, Monday to Friday.
- The organization provides complimentary parking, modern office facilities, scenic waterfront views, and outstanding employee benefits.
- This role reports directly to the General Counsel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the execution of the organization's legal initiatives under the supervision of the General Counsel, including assessing eligibility for requested legal assistance.
- Serve as a legal representative in matters concerning employee-employer relations in collaboration with the Association's staff union.
- Advise, represent, and advocate for members and local affiliates in administrative and judicial proceedings. This includes conducting investigations, performing legal research, drafting legal documents, and presenting evidence and arguments in relevant cases.
- Engage with grievants, staff, and local leadership regarding ongoing legal matters.
- Conduct legal research and provide counsel as directed by the General Counsel to the Executive Director and management team.
- Assist in the development of training programs for field personnel.
- Stay updated on legal developments related to employee rights, labor law, and educational law.
- Perform in-depth legal research and analysis.
- Draft clear and precise legal memoranda and documents.
- Maintain effective communication with the General Counsel and other members of the legal team.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school is required, along with eligibility to practice law in Maryland.
- Experience in labor and employment law is essential.
- Must be admitted to the Maryland Bar and eligible for admission to the United States District Court for the District of Maryland.
- Demonstrated oral advocacy skills and prior experience before administrative bodies, including labor relations boards and appellate courts.
- Ability to analyze complex information, plan and execute projects, and adapt methods as necessary.
- Strong interpersonal skills to influence and negotiate effectively.
- A valid Maryland driver's license is required, along with the willingness to travel for hearings as needed.
