Job Summary

This role is responsible for providing real-time captioning and transcription services to support the accessibility needs of students, faculty, and staff at Lone Star College. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide real-time captioning services in a variety of settings, including classrooms, meetings, and events.
  2. Transcribe verbal communication in real-time using specialized technology.
  3. Communicate with faculty and staff to gather information and prepare for captioning sessions.
  4. Research and stay up-to-date on new vocabulary and technical information to ensure accurate transcription.
  5. Maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive information.
  6. Perform administrative tasks, such as scheduling and billing, as needed.
Requirements
  • Associate degree and at least 3 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Successful completion of the TypeWell training program or appropriate CART qualifications.
  • Reliable mode of transportation to travel between assignments within the LSC service area.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least one year of captioning experience in a post-secondary education environment.
  • Appropriate CART qualifications, such as RPR or CSR.
Work Environment

This position is a full-time position working 185 days per year (August - May), plus holiday pay. Includes evening and weekend assignments. Work is generally performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards.
