Overview:
Provides essential direct and indirect patient support in various healthcare environments, including hospitals, clinics, and home health care. All tasks are conducted under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician.
FLEX Department
The FLEX department allows employees to work across multiple clinical areas within the organization. Employees may be assigned to different facilities as needed, ensuring a dynamic work experience. Flexible scheduling is available with 12-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays. The FLEX team comprises over 80 professionals, including nurses and nursing assistants.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist healthcare providers during routine examinations and procedures, ensuring necessary equipment and supplies are available, especially in emergencies.
- In psychiatric settings, support patients with reality orientation, engage in behavior modification plans, provide informal support therapy, and manage potentially aggressive situations with verbal de-escalation techniques.
- Monitor, collect, and document patient information during care, promptly reporting any significant changes in the patient's condition to a registered nurse or physician.
- Guide patients and their families through the admission process, orienting them to the healthcare experience and assisting with discharge.
- Deliver care and treatments as outlined in the care plan, including vital signs measurement, specimen collection, simple wound care, and assisting with daily living activities.
- Perform indirect care tasks, such as maintaining a clean work environment, changing linens, restocking supplies, and assisting in the orientation of new staff and students.
- Reinforce patient education provided by healthcare professionals and document patient understanding of instructions, distributing educational materials as needed.
Additional Information
Education Requirements:
High School diploma or GED is required.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
Must be listed as Nursing Assistant I with the relevant health department. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers is also required.
Professional Experience Requirements:
A minimum of six months of relevant experience as a nursing assistant, which may include completion of a nursing assistant course.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Requirements:
Proficiency in verbal and written English, along with basic computer skills.
