Job Summary

Isana is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Special Education Assistant to join our team. As a Special Education Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special needs in a classroom setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist Students with Academic and Behavioral Challenges: Provide individualized support to students with special needs, helping them to follow classroom routines, work on-task, and complete assignments with increasing independence.
  • Collaborate with Teachers and School Staff: Work closely with teachers and other school staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior support plans.
  • Implement Behavioral Support Plans: Assist students with implementing behavior support plans, including data collection, reinforcement of positive behavior, and use of sensory breaks as needed.
  • Provide Physical and Emotional Support: Assist students with physical tasks and mobility, as needed, and provide emotional support to help students manage challenging behaviors.
  • Collect and Analyze Data: Collect and analyze data on student progress, including academic and behavioral data, to inform instruction and support.
  • Attend In-Service Training Sessions: Participate in in-service training sessions to stay up-to-date on best practices in special education and behavioral support.
Requirements
  • Experience Working with Special Needs Children: At least six months of experience working with children with special needs, including knowledge of autism spectrum disorders.
  • Knowledge of ABA and Crisis Prevention Intervention: Familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) strategies and techniques.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and other school staff.
  • Basic Computer Skills: Basic computer skills, including the ability to use software to monitor timelines, service delivery, and data collection.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, run short distances, sit on the floor, bend down, squat, kneel, and twist at the waist to interact and educate students.
Education and Training

Consistent with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015 and other related legislation, candidates for this classification must meet the following standards:

  1. Completion of at least two years of study at an institution of higher education; or
  2. Attainment of an Associate of Arts degree or higher; or
  3. Equivalent of graduation from high school and completion of coursework at an accredited institution of higher education in child development, education, and/or psychology.
