Job DescriptionBus Driver-Special Students

Under the supervision of our transportation team, the Bus Driver-Special Students will operate a school bus and transport students with disabilities over designated routes, ensuring their safety and well-being. This role requires a high level of communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff.

The ideal candidate will possess a valid California Driver's License, a valid medical card/certificate, and verification of First Aid proficiency. They will also have experience operating a bus or heavy motor vehicle, and be able to work safely and efficiently in a variety of environmental conditions.

Essential Job Functions
  • Inspect buses prior to operation to ensure compliance with written rules and regulations.
  • Perform fueling and maintain prescribed levels of fuel for the bus.
  • Drive buses over designated routes, ensuring the safety and well-being of students.
  • Pick up and discharge students, and assist them with entering and exiting the bus.
  • Operate a wheelchair lift and secure wheelchairs and physically handicapped students for transport.
  • Maintain prescribed cleanliness levels of the bus, and prepare and complete required reports.
Requirements and Qualifications

A valid California Driver's License, a valid medical card/certificate, and verification of First Aid proficiency are required for this role. The ideal candidate will also possess experience operating a bus or heavy motor vehicle, and be able to work safely and efficiently in a variety of environmental conditions.

Knowledge of safe driving practices, safe fueling practices, and provisions of the California Motor Vehicle Code and Education Code applicable to the operation of vehicles in the transportation of students is also essential.

The successful candidate will be able to drive a school bus and other automotive equipment safely and efficiently, maintain order among students on a school bus, and communicate and relate well with physically and mentally handicapped students.

They will also be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, and work and drive safely in a variety of environmental conditions.
