DEPARTMENT: Nursing Services

REPORTS TO: Charge Nurse, Unit Nurse Manager, Chief Nursing Officer

SUPERVISION: Oversees LPNs, Nurse Aides, and Unit Secretary within the Nursing Unit

POSITION SUMMARY:
  • Responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care consistently on the Nursing Unit during assigned shifts.
  • Accountable for the efficient and safe operation of the Nursing Unit, ensuring departmental and organizational objectives are met.
  • Ensures adherence to patient safety and organizational practices.
  • Fosters positive public relations through interactions with patients, healthcare professionals, visitors, and staff.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Ensures nursing tasks are performed safely, competently, and in a timely manner, including medication administration.
  2. Organizes and coordinates activities within the Nursing Unit.
  3. Assists in training and orienting new staff, ensuring they receive proper guidance.
  4. Maintains compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  5. Collects and maintains departmental reports and records for administrative purposes.
  6. Implements unit-specific goals aligned with overall nursing and organizational objectives.
  7. Facilitates effective communication between the nursing unit and other departments to enhance patient care.
  8. Acts as a resource for unit staff, providing feedback on performance.
  9. Interacts positively and professionally with others.
  10. Collaborates effectively with team members, respecting their contributions.
  11. Ensures nursing standards and practices are upheld.
  12. Provides direct patient care and evaluates outcomes, adjusting care as necessary.
  13. Documents patient status and care accurately and comprehensively.
  14. Assesses patient and family needs, ensuring care is tailored to those needs.
  15. Serves as a liaison among personnel, medical staff, and other departments.
  16. Participates in required meetings and nursing committees.
  17. Encourages professional development among staff.
  18. Promotes a safe environment conducive to high-quality patient care.
  19. Protects patient confidentiality through appropriate communication practices.
  20. Monitors staff compliance with policies and reports any violations.
  21. Ensures practitioner orders are executed with sound nursing judgment.
  22. Works required shifts and may be on-call as needed.
  23. Performs additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:
Associate Degree in Nursing, licensed to practice in the State of Kentucky.

EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of six months of relevant departmental experience.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
One or more years of relevant RN experience in a similar department.
