Job Title: Domestic Abuse Victim Advocate

Job Summary:

The Domestic Abuse Victim Advocate will provide support and advocacy services to victims of domestic abuse, ensuring their safety and well-being. This role requires a strong understanding of domestic abuse dynamics and the ability to provide confidential and non-judgmental support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 24/7 response to victims of domestic abuse, offering support and guidance.
  • Establish and maintain safety plans for victims, working closely with treatment managers and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the Family Advocacy Treatment Manager and Family Advocacy Intervention Specialist to ensure victim safety and well-being.
  • Develop and maintain a contact file for each victim, containing essential information and a log of contacts.
  • Provide information and referrals to victims on military and civilian resources, including emergency shelter, housing, childcare, legal services, and clinical resources.
  • Offer follow-up services to victims, empowering them to advocate for their needs and make informed decisions.
  • Support victims in decision-making, prioritizing actions, and establishing short- and long-term goals.
  • Provide information and referral on military and civilian resources, including medical services, transitional compensation, and other relevant support services.
  • Accompany victims to appointments and court proceedings when requested, providing emotional support and advocacy.
  • Collaborate with the Family Advocacy Intervention Specialist to develop System Advocacy, Education, and Public Awareness initiatives, promoting a coordinated community response to domestic abuse.
  • Support the Family Advocacy Committee, participating in the development, implementation, and evaluation of installation domestic abuse policies and protocols.
  • Participate in resiliency initiatives designed to prevent domestic abuse, actively engaging with the FAP Secondary Prevention and Client Engagement (SPaCE) and New Parent Support Program (NPSP) prevention activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in a relevant field, such as Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling.
  • Minimum two years of experience assisting and providing advocacy services to victims of domestic abuse or sexual assault.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to clearly read, understand, speak, and write English.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Basic Advocate credential with designation of Comprehensive Intervention Specialist as approved by the National Advocate Credentialing Program.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee may use repeated motions that include the arms, wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The employee is occasionally required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
