Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced professional to lead our Animal Services Division, overseeing all aspects of animal shelter operations, including management, supervision, and customer service. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, be able to make sound judgments, and demonstrate a passion for animal welfare.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct all aspects of the Animal Services division, including supervision, management, and customer service.
  • Oversee the recruitment, evaluation, and discipline of all animal shelter employees.
  • Ensure the overall health and wellness of animals housed at the shelter.
  • Maintain efficient animal flow through the shelter system.
  • Analyze data to identify gaps and areas for improvement in our programs.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, officials, and the public.
  • Act as liaison between the shelter, police department, and animal control officers.
  • Develop and implement euthanasia protocols and oversee controlled drug management.
  • Respond to media inquiries and represent the City in various capacities.
  • Assist with departmental projects and events as needed.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A bachelor's degree in animal science or a related field.
  • At least six years of experience in animal welfare, facility management, and employee supervision.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • The ability to cope emotionally with high euthanasia volumes.
  • Thorough knowledge of animal control ordinances and shelter operations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
