Job Description and Duties

As a Fish and Wildlife Seasonal Aid, you will assist permanent staff with various tasks related to wildlife conservation and habitat maintenance. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with ground preparation, planting, and irrigating of wildlife food crops and native plants.
  • Repairing and conducting routine maintenance on wheel tractors, farming implements, light trucks, and agricultural pumps.
  • Assisting with installing water control structures and removing old structures.
  • Participating in manual labor tasks related to fire resiliency, such as repairing wildlife area boundary fences, replacing boundary signs, and developing guzzlers and springs.
  • Assisting with the implementation of the areas grazing program.
  • Performing painting and other maintenance activities, as well as stocking and cleaning public use self-registration booths.
  • Collecting trash as needed.
  • Assisting with the operation of the hunter check station, including checking hunters and other area users in and out of the area, issuing permits, and directing them to safe and quality areas.
  • Collecting data on hunter take and making reports based on this data.
  • Maintaining all public use facilities and informational data.
  • Applying herbicides to control weeds around water controls, agricultural pumps, electrical boxes, buildings, and other facilities, under the direction of a qualified herbicide applicator.
  • Operating, servicing, and maintaining all-terrain vehicles and gasoline-powered spray rigs.
  • Maintaining accurate pesticide application records and other related documents.

This is a non-testing classification, and the Fish and Wildlife Seasonal Aid classification is a great opportunity to gain experience and skills in wildlife conservation and habitat maintenance.

Working Conditions

Work may require working outdoors during adverse weather conditions, such as rain, cold, and heat.

Special Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must demonstrate knowledge of, interest in, and aptitude for fish and wildlife conservation and repair and maintenance work. You must also be willing to live and work throughout the State, work unusual hours and on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, perform varied manual tasks, and work in adverse weather conditions. A valid driver's license is required.
