Key Responsibilities- Provide Preventative Care: Clean and polish teeth, remove calculus deposits, and stains from teeth and beneath gums, applies topical fluoride treatments.
- Chart Patient Conditions: Chart existing conditions in the mouth including possible areas of dental decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment by dentist.
- Apply Sealants and X-rays: Apply pit and fissure sealants as approved by dentist and expose and develop x-ray film for use by dentist.
- Educate Patients: Educate patients in proper oral hygiene techniques for plaque removal.
- Record Patient Information: Record information in charts and initiate on-going patient recall system for maintenance of teeth.
- Assist Dentist: Assist dentist as directed.
- Degree and Licensure: Degree from an accredited school of dental hygiene and license from state of Michigan to practice dental hygiene required.
- Experience: One year experience working in a dental practice preferred.
- Training and Certifications: Basic Life Support/CPR training according to requirements of license and/or certification.
- Communication Skills: Ability to establish effective working relationships with co-workers, public and patients.
- Confidentiality: Ability to identify and maintain agency and client confidential information.
- Cultural Competence: Ability to work with patients and staff of other cultures.
- Loan Repayment: Loan repayment through the NHSC and Michigan State Loan Repayment Program.
- Training and Development: Internal training/CEU opportunities and training budget for external training/CEU opportunities.
