Position Overview
The Mechanical Project Engineer plays a pivotal role in managing engineering initiatives from inception to completion. This position demands a blend of technical acumen, organizational prowess, and strong communication skills to develop efficient material handling systems. The ideal candidate will possess a solid foundation in mechanical design, complemented by recent project experience in the material handling sector. Reporting directly to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Project Engineer will collaborate closely with Sales, Project Management, Purchasing, and installation teams on a daily basis.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Sales teams in crafting equipment proposals through engineering analysis and design insights.
- Assist Project Managers in system commissioning and provide field support.
- Analyze project requirements to strategize the design and selection of system components.
- Assess manufacturing feasibility, estimate costs, and evaluate maintenance needs for various material handling systems.
- Create system layouts and specific components using 2D and 3D CAD software, optimizing for cost, functionality, and manufacturability.
- Draft specifications, user manuals, and other documentation to comprehensively detail engineering designs.
- Oversee all production aspects, including manufacturing method selection and fabrication processes. Collaborate with procurement on parts ordering and supplier selection.
- Facilitate coordination among various engineering disciplines, purchasing, project management, and site integration.
- Maintain precise records and prepare a variety of clear and concise meeting notes, letters, and technical reports.
- Determine project timelines by analyzing project plans and specifications, calculating time requirements, and sequencing project elements.
- Review project specifications by examining product designs, customer needs, and performance standards.
- Lead projects with budgets up to 10 million USD.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 3 to 7 years of practical experience in manufacturing and project engineering environments, preferably in the design of automated machinery and material handling equipment.
- A diverse background in various machine technologies, including control systems, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
- Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD modeling software.
- Ability to analyze and design fundamental mechanical components using mechanical engineering principles.
- Capability to specify mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic components.
- Strong understanding of drafting, dimensioning, tolerancing, and manufacturing processes.
- Exceptional time management skills, attention to detail, and a quick learning ability.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Professional demeanor with a positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills. Self-motivated, trustworthy, and respectful of others.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
- Strong listening skills.
- Ability to apply engineering principles to solve complex mechanical engineering challenges.
- Good understanding of IBC and OSHA standards for Material Handling Equipment.
- Effective utilization of project engineering tools.
- Expertise in electrical motors, pneumatics, hydraulics, and power transmission techniques.
- Capability to lead prototype testing of various Material Handling Equipment components and develop technical solutions.
