Job Title: Electrical Journeyman

Irving Independent School District is seeking a highly skilled Electrical Journeyman to join our team. As an Electrical Journeyman, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and installing electrical systems, services, and equipment for the District.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform preventative maintenance on electrical apparatuses, electrical fixtures, and all types of power systems.
  • Determine the best approach to solving tasks after carefully evaluating the work site to ensure safety for site occupants and/or facility users while the project is underway.
  • Outline projects and work with minimal oversight.
  • Review and inspect assigned tasks to adequately order required materials and supplies for the job.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and written reference material outlining the scope of various projects.
  • Install new equipment, including but not limited to conduit and outlets for circuitry, and classroom lighting; and perform required maintenance.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED, preferred.
  • Valid Texas Journeyman Electrician License, required.
  • Documented electrical courses from Trade School, preferred.
  • Valid Class C Texas driver's license and proof of insurability with District insurance carrier.
Working Conditions:

The Electrical Journeyman will work in a fast-paced environment, often under tight deadlines. The position requires frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. The Electrical Journeyman will also work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, and may be exposed to extreme hot and cold temperatures, humidity, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, asbestos-containing materials, grease, oils, loud noises, vibration, and electrical hazards.

The Electrical Journeyman will be required to work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, and on ladders or scaffolding. The position may also require working alone, and occasionally working irregular or prolonged hours. Districtwide travel may be required.

The Electrical Journeyman will be responsible for maintaining emotional control under stress and exercising reasoning and problem-solving under pressure.
