Position Overview:
The Mt. Diablo Center is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Transportation Specialist to provide safe and reliable transport for clients using a 14-passenger bus equipped with a wheelchair lift. This role involves assisting clients with their transportation needs to and from our center during designated hours, as well as facilitating shopping trips in the local area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the safety of all passengers during boarding and disembarking, offering assistance as necessary, including door-through-door support.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with clients, center personnel, senior housing facilities, and caregivers.
- Operate the wheelchair lift for clients requiring mobility assistance and ensure proper securement of all passengers before vehicle movement.
- Safely store mobility aids such as wheelchairs, walkers, and canes before operating the vehicle.
- Manage the midday shopping shuttle service for low-income seniors, assisting them with their purchases as needed.
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections to guarantee safety, cleanliness, and mechanical readiness, documenting findings and reporting any issues.
- Collaborate with the Program Director to review and plan the daily transportation schedule.
- Utilize maps or navigation tools to determine the most efficient routes.
Qualifications:
- Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License and successful completion of an annual physical examination.
- Experience working with elderly individuals and familiarity with wheelchair lift operations.
- Hold a CHP and DMV Class B License with passenger endorsement and be pursuing California Vehicles for Developmentally Disabled Persons (VDDP) certification.
- Maintain a clean driving record and be insurable by the agency's insurance provider.
- Pass all required background checks, medical evaluations, and drug screenings.
- A high school diploma is required, with preference given to candidates with experience supporting individuals with disabilities.
- Complete necessary training in CPR and first aid.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist clients with mobility needs.
- Vision must be adequate for reading fine print and operating vehicles safely, while hearing must be sufficient to monitor traffic and vehicle sounds.
