KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct various tasks primarily focused on the examination of material samples to identify macro structural imperfections and ensure compliance with macro structural acceptance criteria. Maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Prepare macro samples through surface grinding or manual abrasive belt grinding. Formulate appropriate etching solutions. Identify defects such as piping, excessive segregation, surface anomalies, and others. Utilize corrosive solutions to reveal the characteristics of well-prepared specimens. This role involves the assessment of a diverse range of grades and macro conditions where comprehensive photographic standards may not be available, requiring significant expertise for accurate evaluation.
- Initiate cutbacks and resampling for material samples that exhibit unacceptable structures. Escalate any ambiguous structures to the quality control metallurgist. Keep macro inspection and inventory reports updated in the prescribed format.
- Oversee the receipt of acids for bulk and tank storage, along with the inspection of these tanks. Responsible for verifying acid strengths to ensure effective etching, and must accurately measure and mix acids as needed.
ADDITIONAL TASKS:
- Perform other duties as assigned or directed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Must successfully pass Respirator Protection screening.
- Must successfully pass in-depth vision screening.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations, including decimals and fractions.
- Familiarity with standard macro characteristics and inspection methodologies.
- Ability to utilize tables, charts, and specifications effectively.
- Some specialized training is necessary to fulfill NDT certification requirements.
