Job Summary:

The University of New Mexico - Hospitals is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Behavioral Health Responder to join our team. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will work closely with individuals in crisis, providing verbal de-escalation, screening services, and case management to ensure optimal, recovery-oriented care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide emergency response and crisis intervention services to individuals in need.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop person-centered, trauma-informed, strengths-based safety plans.
  • Conduct screenings and assessments to identify individuals in crisis and provide appropriate interventions.
  • Develop and maintain recovery-oriented collaborative relationships with individuals in crisis.
  • Provide education and outreach to community members, families, and healthcare providers on mental health and substance use issues.
  • Participate in hospital huddles and daily management systems to ensure proper coordination of care and interdisciplinary team communication.
  • Document all patient contacts, care coordination, and client compliance in the electronic health record system.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, staff, and the interdisciplinary team using hospital-endorsed patient and staff communication tools.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience in mental health, substance abuse, or a related field.
  • CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider or Professional Rescuer certification within 30 days.
  • NM Cert Peer Support or Family Peer Support or CMHW certification.

Working Conditions:

  • May be required to travel to various work sites.
  • Exposure to physical risk/injuries due to combative patients.
  • Exposure to chemicals, biohazardous materials requiring PPE.
