Job Summary

College of the Canyons is seeking qualified adjunct faculty members to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) courses. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a dynamic learning environment that values instructor/student interaction and effectively engages with and facilitates authentic learning for students of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach ESL courses to students of varying skill levels and backgrounds
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that meet the needs of diverse learners
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback
  • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to curriculum development
  • Collaborate with colleagues to promote a positive and inclusive learning environment
Requirements
  • Possession of an unexpired California Community College Instructor Credential in English as a Second Language (ESL)
  • OR - Master's in TESL, TESOL, applied linguistics with a TESL emphasis, linguistics with a TESL emphasis, English with a TESL emphasis, or education with a TESL emphasis
  • OR - Bachelor's in TESL, TESOL, English with a TESL certificate, linguistics with a TESL certificate, applied linguistics with a TESL certificate, or any foreign language with a TESL certificate AND Master's in linguistics, applied linguistics, English, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, speech, or any foreign language
  • OR - Equivalent (none accepted)
Working Conditions
  • Assignments may include Monday through Friday (day and evening), as well as Saturday classes
  • Starting salary rate: $88.30 per hour
