Position Overview

Location: Sisseton, SD (Relocation or travel may be necessary)

DAKOTA PLAINS LEGAL SERVICES (DPLS), a nonprofit organization providing legal assistance, is seeking a Staff Attorney for its Sisseton office. This office serves the counties of Grant and Roberts, as well as the Sisseton Wahpeton Tribal Courts.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS AND DUTIES:

  • Must possess a Juris Doctor (JD) degree and be licensed to practice law in South Dakota, or be eligible for licensure through reciprocity or the next South Dakota Bar Exam.
  • Ideal candidates will be proactive, self-motivated, and ready to take on significant legal responsibilities, including managing a diverse caseload with a focus on family law.
  • Regular court appearances in both state and tribal courts are expected.
  • A commitment to serving low-income individuals and Native American communities is essential.

COMPENSATION: Starting salary of $70,000+ for attorneys with two or more years of experience. The organization offers a four-day work week and a comprehensive benefits package, including generous leave and employer-sponsored insurance (medical, dental, life, and disability).
