Mathematics Tutor

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Mathematics Tutor to join our team at InsideHigherEd. As a Mathematics Tutor, you will play a critical role in supporting students in achieving academic success.

• Maintain Confidentiality: Maintain tutor-student confidential information within compliance with FERPA regulations.
• Tutoring and Support: Tutor students in specific course material and integrate study skills and learning strategies to promote independent learning.
• Monitoring Student Progress: Monitor student understanding of material covered. Require students to actively participate in each session.
• Academic Honesty: Maintain academic honesty by not doing student's homework or take-home quizzes/exams.
• Availability and Scheduling: Maintain consistent weekly availability schedule of work hours in Academic Center for walk-ins and scheduled one-on-one appointments.
• Session Documentation: Complete and submit all session related paperwork.
• Professional Development: Develop a understanding and knowledge of college services, support and resources such as CCC portal, WCONLINE, Word and Excel.
• Learning Facilitation: Facilitate learning and serve as guide and coach to assist student to become a successful learner.
• Adaptability: Adjust tutoring methods as needed to meet various student learning styles.
• Training and Orientation: Complete professional development trainings offered as well as tutor program orientations.

• Recommendation: Provide professor recommendation as to level of knowledge in tutoring content area.
• Course Completion: Must have completed the course in tutoring content area successfully.
• Online Tutoring: Possess ability to tutor online from off campus through Microsoft Teams.
• Communication Skills: Skills in written and verbal communication.
• Empathy: Demonstrate empathy to students having difficulties.
• Self-Directed: Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision.
• Attendance and Time Management: Maintain excellent attendance and time management skills.
• Critical Thinking: Demonstrate above-average creative problem-solving critical thinking, patience and decision-making skills.

• Interest in Helping Students: Possess genuine interest in helping students develop study skills and acclimate to college level coursework.
• Leadership Experience: Experience in leadership.
• Knowledge of Learning Styles: Knowledge of learning styles a plus.
• Responsibility and Reliability: Exhibit appropriate and professional level of responsibility, reliability and punctuality.
• Supervision and Feedback: Possess a willingness to accept supervision and constructive feedback and implement recommendations for improvement as directed.

• Interview Process: Interview with the hiring supervisor for the position of interest.
• Onboarding: If selected, you and your supervisor must complete all federal, state and college forms.
• Work Schedule: Create a work schedule with your supervisor that does not conflict with your class schedule.
