Piping Engineering & Analysis Overview

The Piping Engineering & Analysis team is responsible for conducting assessments of piping systems in compliance with industry standards such as ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.7, and other relevant codes.

This discipline encompasses various specialized areas, including:

  • Vibration Monitoring: Analyzing operational vibrations in piping systems to address modifications and operational events, while providing solutions for vibration prevention and mitigation.
  • Hydraulic Transient Evaluation: Assessing piping systems for thermal stratification impacts, operability evaluations, and the qualification of piping against hydrodynamic forces.
  • Pipe Integrity Assessments: Conducting evaluations for pipe ruptures, wall thinning due to flow accelerated corrosion (FAC) or microbiological induced corrosion (MIC), and other pipe flaw analyses.
Position Responsibilities

The role involves delivering technical support on various projects through a range of engineering tasks, including:

  • Preparation of complex calculations and review of simpler calculations.
  • Assessment of basic system and structural designs.
  • Development of documented design inputs for drawing production, such as P&IDs and Master Diagrams.
  • Creation of specifications for a majority of balance of plant equipment.
  • Execution of bid evaluations for individual components and calculations to support economic assessments.
  • Preparation of concise reports and studies.
  • Contributing to project budgets, schedules, and work plans while monitoring personal work to ensure adherence to budget and timelines.
  • Utilizing effective communication skills to relay information to project team members and management, ensuring clarity in all written technical documentation.
  • Engaging with vendors through comprehensive specifications.
  • Applying established standards and processes to assigned tasks.
  • Completing assignments within the designated timeframe.
  • Potentially mentoring junior engineers.

This position operates on a hybrid work model, requiring in-office attendance three days per week.

Qualifications

Essential Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aerospace, or Structural/Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, focusing on solid mechanics, structural analysis, theory of elasticity, metallurgy, and finite element analysis.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with ASME B31.1 and ASME B&PV Section III piping codes.
  • Understanding of the design, selection, and application of pipe support systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
  • Working knowledge of commercially available piping products and their applications.
  • Ability to navigate 3D CAD models.
  • Experience with AutoPIPE or PIPESTRESS software.
  • Knowledge of gas dynamics and hydraulic transients.
  • Expertise in pipe condition assessment.
