Salary


The estimated salary for this role is between $70,000 to $80,000, depending on factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may vary in different locations due to differences in labor costs.



Job Description


In this role as a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be part of the Mechanical team in the MEP Buildings sector, specializing in Science and Technology projects based in San Diego, California.


Your responsibilities will include:



  • Designing and developing 3D models using Revit or CAD software
  • Preparing HVAC one-line diagrams and reviewing calculations for loads
  • Editing specifications to reflect project requirements
  • Selecting and scheduling equipment
  • Meeting with vendors to determine specification requirements
  • Coordinating with other disciplines (MEPFP, ARCH, STRUCT, etc.)
  • Responding to RFI's and accurately reviewing submittals
  • Solving installation problems and applying risk management procedures daily
  • Understanding MEP/FP work planning and managing design processes to available hours in work plans
  • Delivering proper documentation and working with project coordinators and clients to meet scheduled project milestones
  • Mentoring Designer level staff on all their responsibilities
  • Performing QA/QC reviews of calculations by designers and providing guidance and mentoring
  • Determining content of drawings and specs for Designers to meet scope of work
  • Developing and monitoring work plans in conjunction with other Project Managers
  • Reviewing code-related items with Designers and ensuring compliance
  • Managing work plans and deliverables on multiple projects within budgeted hours
  • Writing studies and reports for systems on projects
  • Writing sequences of operations for AHUs, CHW, and HW systems
  • Applying concepts of CHW, HW, WSHP, variable & constant flow systems
  • Air side systems - CV, VAV, coil selection, fan selection
  • Hydronic Systems - hot, chilled condenser, steam
  • Thorough understanding of psychometrics and applying it to every project
  • Advanced equipment selection and analysis - chillers, boilers, air terminals, cooling towers, air valves, heap filters, DX equipment, and water source heat pumps
  • Thorough understanding of total energy concepts
  • Fluency in energy software applications
  • Fluency in developing life cycle cost analysis (LCCA) for project systems


Required Skills and Qualifications


To be successful in this role, you should have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering and 0-1 years of building HVAC design experience. Experience designing and marketing in Science and Technology is preferred.
