Job Title: Radiation Therapist

Inova Health System is seeking a skilled Radiation Therapist to join their team in Burke, Virginia.

Job Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with physicians to ensure safe and effective use of ionizing radiation.
  • Attend hospital committees, such as the Radiation Safety Committee, to stay informed and contribute to decision-making.
  • Maintain professional relationships with department directors and Medical Directors.
  • Provide Medical Physics coverage as needed, including Radiation Therapy, Cardiac Cath, and other areas.
  • Work with Engineering to design radiation shields for areas using ionizing radiation.
  • Oversee testing and acceptance of new or renovated medical equipment and imaging networks.
  • Perform calculations and measurements to implement new treatment and imaging techniques.
  • Review and verify calibration protocols to ensure their impact on clinical applications.
  • Investigate and evaluate new equipment and improvements to existing equipment to reduce costs and downtime.
  • Compare data with other radiation therapy institutions to stay up-to-date.
  • Stay current with clinical and dosimetry literature in the subject specialty.
  • Develop and maintain contacts with physicists in other practices.
  • Collaborate with physicians throughout Inova Health System on patient dosages, equipment evaluation, and quality assurance.
  • Comply with state and federal regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with applicable rules and recommendations.
  • Work with vendors to ensure proper quality assurance and routine maintenance of equipment.
  • Maintain dosimetry in accordance with applicable rules and regulations.
  • Discuss radiation exposure with patients and the public.
  • Deliver physics lectures to Inova personnel on radiation matters.
Qualifications
  • A master's degree in Physics or a related field is required; a doctoral degree is preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Clinical Medical Physics.
  • American Board of Radiology (ABR) certification is required.
  • Virginia Inspector certification within the first two months of hire.
  • Availability to work outside of normal business hours is required.
  • Knowledge of scripting is preferred.
  • Experience with Raystation treatment planning system is preferred.
  • Prior experience with proton therapy is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills are required.
