The Senior Vice President of Department Operations serves as the senior executive for three academic departments and two services across Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. This role requires a strong leader who can partner with department chairs and hospital executives to drive excellence in clinical care, biomedical research, education, and community service.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead the strategic planning process and establish long-range goals for the departments and services under their purview.
- Partner with department chairs and hospital executives to ensure effective faculty development, general service offerings, and administrative leadership.
- Oversee the funding and indirect management of hospital FTEs deployed within the academic departments.
- Ensure competent, efficient, and coordinated patient care is uniformly provided across ambulatory, inpatient, and community settings.
- Manage all operating and capital budgets for the departments and services under their purview.
- Lead the management team toward attainment of identified short- and long-term goals and objectives.
- Advance Mass General Brigham's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Develop and implement systems and procedures consonant with the AMC's policies.
- Assess administrative and financial needs and revise policies and procedures to meet changing needs.
- Collaborate with department chairs, hospital executives, and other stakeholders to drive excellence in clinical care, biomedical research, education, and community service.
- Maintain the solvency of all funds under their purview.
- Examine, analyze, and interpret financial reports to give advice, prepare statements and projections, and ultimately manage resources.
- Supervise the activities of subordinates responsible for managing budgets, assigning cost centers, and monitoring compliance with budgets.
- Coordinate with Human Resources for interviewing, hiring, personnel transactions, and implementation of institutional corrective action policy for staff.
- Develop and implement change management programs, including efficiency and resource utilization projects.
- Take corrective and disciplinary action, up to and including termination, as necessary to maintain the highest level of staff productivity and effectiveness.
- 10+ years of experience as a leader within an academic medical center.
- Demonstrated track record of successfully leading teams.
- Experience working in a highly matrixed organization/environment strongly preferred.
- Master's degree required.
- Truly outstanding interpersonal skills and a high degree of social facility in obtaining cooperation and support from a broad range of people.
- Demonstrated ability to interact with all members of the organization in ways that enhance understanding, respect, cooperation, and problem-solving.
- Results-driven approach with experience/ability to achieve results in a metrics-based analytical environment.
- Outstanding organizational skills necessary to manage many competing timetables and responsibilities and deadline pressures.
