Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Sterile Processing Technician II to join our team at Kaiser Permanente. As a key member of our Sterile Processing Department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest quality standards for medical equipment and supplies.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Fulfill orders from requesting departments with precision and efficiency.
  • Conduct equipment rounds, returning soiled equipment to SPD for cleaning and validation, and ensuring proper storage and distribution.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, answering phones and responding to inquiries.
  • Manage inventory and restock supplies, including specialty carts, in accordance with department policy.
  • Order specialty beds and patient equipment as needed, adhering to medical center protocols.
  • Disassemble, clean, or decontaminate surgical instruments, following manufacturers' recommendations and guidelines.
  • Assemble, inspect, test, wrap, and date OR sets, including specialty sets, in accordance with department protocol and manufacturers' recommendations.
  • Operate various equipment in the Sterile Processing Department, including steam sterilizers, plasma sterilizers, and automated endoscope reprocessors.
  • Utilize instrument and equipment tracking systems, documenting tests and sterilizer records.
  • Examine and maintain the integrity of sterile packages.
  • Prepare OR case carts according to preference cards for all surgical procedures.
  • Promote and ensure exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members to achieve departmental goals.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned within the scope of training and service.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Two years of recent experience as a Sterile Processing Technician in an acute hospital or a Surgical Technician with two years of recent experience working in a Sterile Processing Department in an acute hospital.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED).
  • Completion of an accredited Sterile Processing Program or a Surgical Technician program.
  • Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution - Technician Certification or Registered Central Service Technician Certificate or Surgical Technologist Certificate.
Additional Requirements:
  • Basic knowledge of instrument processing techniques, including decontamination, assembly, and sterilization.
  • Knowledge of Sterile Processing Department Policies and Procedures, including infection control practices and safe practices.
  • Knowledge of medical, nursing, and surgical supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to distinguish colors and hear audible alarms.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a stressful environment.
  • Basic computer skills.
