Job Description:

Overview: Belcan is seeking a highly skilled Training Specialist to develop and lead a comprehensive training program for Protection and Control (P&C) technicians and engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver training programs to prepare students for practical employment in P&C roles.
  • Develop and maintain a strong focus on hands-on activities in a lab that simulates a substation control house.
  • Implement student evaluation and assessment methods to measure program effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure training content is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive training manual and supporting materials.
  • Provide training to students on safety procedures and protocols.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of adult learning styles and adapt training methods accordingly.
  • Stay current with industry developments and advancements in P&C technology.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering technology from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 10 years work experience in the electric utility transmission P&C space.
  • Experience as a utility employee or direct contractor; or vendor providing P&C services to utility customers is acceptable.
  • Strong understanding of P&C commissioning activities, including green field and brown field projects.
  • Excellent classroom presentation and technical writing skills.
  • Professional presence and ability to establish rapport with various personalities in multiple levels of the organization.
  • Ability to lift, move, and set up demonstration equipment of various weight up to 40 pounds and move demonstration equipment on wheels weighing in excess of 40 pounds.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experienced in substation entrance procedures and NERC/CIP requirements.
  • General knowledge of HV switchyard apparatus application, operation, and commissioning.
  • General knowledge in protective relays and protection philosophies.
  • Expert in commissioning P&C equipment.
  • Advanced knowledge of protective relays and relay testing.
