Role Summary

The Pediatric Dietitian I (PD I) is responsible for delivering evidence-based nutritional care to patients and their families, utilizing professional skills to address the unique needs and concerns of assigned individuals. The PD I is adept at developing and executing personalized nutrition care plans that incorporate current medical nutrition therapy (MNT). This role plays a vital part in nutrition-related decision-making, contributing to positive health outcomes while serving as an effective educator. The PD I manages daily responsibilities, prioritizes patient care, and advocates for the nutritional needs of patients and families, all under the guidance of the Clinical Nutrition Services Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Deliver nutrition care to patients and families dealing with various pediatric nutritional issues, demonstrating critical thinking and problem-solving abilities in the clinical setting. Maintain professional knowledge and skills that align with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' standards for pediatric dietitians.
  2. Evaluate the nutritional requirements of patients, create and implement effective MNT plans, recommend interventions, and monitor nutrition care outcomes promptly. Ensure that care plans align with the overall health needs of the patient, taking into account psychosocial, cultural, and religious factors.
  3. Determine the most suitable feeding methods for patients and accurately assess their nutritional needs, making timely adjustments to care plans as necessary.
  4. Take an active role in educating patients and families, tailoring teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and ensuring a positive experience. Maintain a compassionate and respectful approach in all interactions.
  5. Accurately document nutrition care plans and recommendations, adhering to established policies and standards to ensure timely access to information for interdisciplinary care.
  6. Participate in patient rounds, sharing relevant information that supports the interdisciplinary team's efforts to achieve patient care objectives.
  7. Carry out patient care tasks under routine supervision, addressing common challenges and seeking assistance when needed. Pursue opportunities for professional growth and knowledge enhancement.
  8. Act as a resource for nutrition-related information within the hospital and the broader community, providing education to the healthcare team and participating in initiatives that promote health and wellness.
  9. Demonstrate an understanding of quality improvement principles and actively support changes that enhance care and services.
  10. Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.
