Research University Practice
Our Research Universities Practice (RUP) is strategically designed to enhance and diversify sponsored research activities for public and private research universities classified as R1 or R2 (Carnegie Classification Doctoral Universities—very high research activity or high research activity). McAllister & Quinn employs a comprehensive approach, offering support across four key service areas: Strategic Intelligence, Research Development, Capacity Building, and Government Relations. This methodology serves as a force multiplier, enabling universities to compete for current and anticipated sponsored opportunities while cultivating new funding avenues that serve the national interest.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior management with client and project oversight, ensuring organized and precise records through internal filing systems and data management tools.
- Identify grant opportunities that correspond with client needs, including:
- Researching and tracking suitable federal and foundation grant prospects.
- Engaging with Program Officers at federal agencies and foundations.
- Providing clear written summaries of relevant grant opportunities.
- Conducting analyses on successful awardee characteristics to enhance client competitiveness.
- Researching institutional funding priorities, programs, and strategic plans to pinpoint grant opportunities.
- Participating in client meetings to grasp priorities and interests for grant prospecting.
- Conducting in-depth research on trends, interests, and priorities relevant to specific clients and grant programs.
- Analyzing federal legislation, including appropriations and authorizations pertinent to science and technology and other client interests.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant federal and foundation grant programs across various agencies.
- Producing high-quality, detailed deliverables, including:
- Client federal and foundation grants forecasting reports.
- Comprehensive analyses for individual grant competitions.
- Supporting the scheduling of client leadership meetings and developing agendas.
- Assisting with notetaking during meetings and distributing notes afterward.
- Facilitating communications and concept development for funding requests.
- Coordinating legislative meetings and liaising with congressional staff as necessary.
- Supporting business development initiatives, including:
- Drafting and revising pitch materials.
- Coordinating pitches with prospective clients.
- Maintaining a proactive, solutions-oriented approach, demonstrating positivity and thoroughness in all client support and internal projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required.
- 1-3 years of relevant professional experience. Preference will be given to candidates with direct experience in federal grant seeking and budget processes.
- Strong writing, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Excellent writing and editing capabilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Able to synthesize and summarize complex materials effectively.
- Strong communication skills for interactions with clients and colleagues.
- Positive attitude and motivation to acquire new knowledge and skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot issues independently.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe.
Compensation and Benefits
- Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, Eastern time zone.
- Competitive benefits package includes 401(k), defined-benefit pension plan, medical, dental, life insurance, long-term disability, and flexible spending accounts.
- Salary will be commensurate with experience, with a range of $58,000 - $62,000 annual base salary and eligibility for discretionary bonuses.
