Job Title: Research Systems Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Systems Engineer to join our team at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. As a key member of our Research IT Infrastructure group, you will play a critical role in managing and supporting Windows and Linux servers and large storage systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage, configure, and maintain both Windows and Linux server environments.
  • Design, implement, and support VMware virtualized environments.
  • Monitor and optimize system performance, ensuring uptime and reliability.
  • Perform regular system updates, patches, and backups.
  • Design, implement, and manage storage solutions, including SAN, NAS, and cloud storage.
  • Ensure data integrity and availability through effective storage strategies.
Requirements:
  • A BS in information technology, information systems, computer science, computer engineering, business, science, or a related field of study.
  • A minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in systems engineering and administration.
  • Proven experience managing both Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Strong expertise in VMware virtualization technology.
  • Advanced proficiency with storage technologies (e.g., SAN, NAS, cloud storage solutions).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with federal computer systems and compliance standards.
  • Experience with automation tools and scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Knowledge of configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
