Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at Kansas Action for Children. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for providing technical support to internal stakeholders and customers, developing innovative solutions, and ensuring the mechanical integrity of our products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform cost analysis for new or existing designs to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Ensure the availability of proposed components for a design, taking into account factors such as lead time and supply chain management.
  • Create and revise detail drawings using AutoCAD, Inventor, or SolidWorks, incorporating feedback from stakeholders and customers.
  • Develop layouts from concept to enable other designers to generate detail drawings, ensuring accuracy and precision.
  • Select raw materials, calculate weight and volume, and ensure mechanical fit of all components in each assembly.
  • Coordinate the creation of item types, manufacturability, and bills of material, ensuring seamless integration with our production processes.
  • Create and maintain data and drawings in our engineering system, ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
  • Estimate remaining times on projects, ensuring timely completion and meeting customer expectations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management, contributing to the overall success of our team.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Technology or equivalent.
  • 0-3 years' experience working as a Mechanical Designer, with a strong understanding of computerized systems and design principles.
  • Knowledge of math and algebra, including areas of plane and volume of solids.
  • Understanding of mechanics, calculation of various moments, center of gravity, and other relevant concepts.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing practices, including knowledge of metal and non-ferrous materials and their properties.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
