Job Title: Family Support Specialist

Job Summary:

The State of Montana is seeking a highly skilled Family Support Specialist to join our team. As a Family Support Specialist, you will work closely with families of children who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind, or visually impaired to provide support and guidance in accessing information and developing the skills necessary to meet their child's unique developmental and social-emotional needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist families in understanding their child's sensory needs and develop individualized plans to meet those needs.
  • Work with families to identify and access community resources and services that support their child's development.
  • Provide support and guidance to families in developing their child's communication skills, including sign language and other alternative communication methods.
  • Collaborate with other professionals, including teachers, therapists, and healthcare providers, to ensure a comprehensive approach to supporting the child's development.
  • Document and track progress and outcomes for each family, using data to inform and adjust support plans as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Child Development, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience working with children who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind, or visually impaired, or related experience in a field such as teaching, therapy, or social work.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with families, professionals, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to collaboration and problem-solving.
  • Knowledge of child development, family engagement, and play activities, with a strong understanding of the impact of sensory loss on child development.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Sign language skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with deaf and hard of hearing individuals.
  • Experience working with families from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of community resources and services that support children with sensory loss, including early intervention programs, special education services, and assistive technology.
