Job Summary

The Atlanta Legal Aid Society is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Staff Attorney to join its Cobb County office. As a Staff Attorney, you will play a critical role in providing legal services to low-income individuals and families in Cobb County.

Key Responsibilities
  • Handle a diverse caseload, including housing and family law matters, using a variety of methods such as community education, courthouse clinics, advice and referral, brief service, transactional work, negotiation, mediation, and litigation.
  • Participate in task forces, committees, social service organizations, and local bar associations to advance the mission of the Atlanta Legal Aid Society.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to provide comprehensive legal services to clients.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners to promote access to justice.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in the law and best practices in the field.
Requirements
  • Membership in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia (preferred) or eligibility to sit for the next exam.
  • Strong work ethic, excellent legal writing and oral advocacy skills, good communication and listening skills, and the ability to work in a team and alone.
  • Adaptability, appreciation of diversity, and the ability to balance compassion and pragmatism.
  • Demonstrated commitment to public service, participation in law school clinics or trial advocacy courses, familiarity with poverty law, and previous work with low-income people.
  • Proficiency in languages other than English is highly valued.
