Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team at Rhode Island Hospital. As a LPN, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and working collaboratively with our healthcare team.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the assessment and implementation of patient care plans under the supervision of a Professional Registered Nurse.
  • Perform selected procedures and treatments according to established standards and protocols.
  • Insert intravenous lines, hang labeled intravenous solutions, and suction patients as needed.
  • Set up enteral feedings, prime tubing sets, and position patients for safe care.
  • Measure central venous pressure, change sterile dressings, and perform tracheostomy care.
  • Remove patients from ventilators, manually ventilate, and insert urinary catheters as required.
  • Administer medications and treatments as approved by hospital policy and procedures.
  • Organize work, set priorities, and report observations to the Professional Registered Nurse.
  • Document patient condition changes, responses to interventions, and actions taken to influence care.
  • Record selected treatments and procedures, maintain patient confidentiality, and serve as an active patient advocate.
  • Work collaboratively with other healthcare providers, assist with cardiac monitoring, and care for patients receiving intravenous fluids.
  • Assist with the identification of learning needs and support teaching done by the Professional Registered Nurse.
Emergency and Safety Conduct
  • Identify cardiopulmonary arrest and initiate CPR.
  • Demonstrate adherence to universal precautions, safety programs, and infection control measures.
  • Review fire, disaster, and infection control procedures in the manual.
  • Perform responsibilities in emergency/code situations, check emergency equipment, and report unsafe situations.
  • Lift patients correctly, utilize assistive devices, and maintain a safe environment.
  • Exercise proper care in equipment use, report need for repair, and utilize side rails and restraints as needed.
  • Adhere to fall precaution and constant observation protocols as assigned.
Professional Conduct
  • Engage in lifelong learning to expand capacity and create a learning organization.
  • Maintain competency requirements according to nursing credentialing policy and procedures.
  • Meet and maintain reliable attendance, punctuality, and timely work assignments.
  • Respond willingly to special department needs, utilize time and equipment efficiently, and participate in unit activities.
  • Participate in staff education programs, establish annual developmental goals, and utilize resources for patient care.
Requirements

Must have current licensure to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Rhode Island. Successful completion of the hospital's patient care delivery orientation program and certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) are also required.

Two years of medical/surgical nursing experience and telemetry experience are required. Two years of endoscopy experience are preferred.

Physical ability for extensive walking and standing, lifting, positioning, and pushing patients on stretchers is necessary.
