Position Title: Substance Abuse Prevention Educator

Program: Prevention First

Position Overview

The role of a Substance Abuse Prevention Educator is primarily focused on educating individuals about substance use, violence prevention, life skills, and other relevant topics. The educator is responsible for designing, preparing, and delivering educational workshops and lessons to students, parents, and community members. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, along with a genuine desire to engage effectively with diverse populations.

This position requires collaboration, an engaging personality, and proficiency in written and verbal communication. Familiarity with software applications such as MS Office Suite is also necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitates educational programs across various communities.
  • Maintains comprehensive records including attendance, medical forms, and program evaluations.
  • Implements daily activities, ensuring a safe and engaging environment for participants.
  • Conducts safety inspections of facilities and equipment prior to events.
  • Communicates essential information to parents and school staff regarding program schedules.
  • Ensures the safety and accountability of all participants.
  • Develops a thorough understanding of substance use and violence prevention resources.
  • Prepares and submits detailed reports to supervisors, including data collection for statistical analysis.
  • Participates in training sessions, meetings, and community events as required.
  • Represents the program positively at various community functions.
  • Supports the goals and initiatives of the Prevention Coalition.
  • Willingness to take on additional responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

Education: A minimum of an Associate's degree and/or one to two years of relevant experience.

Preferred: Certification as a Prevention Specialist or a teaching certificate.
