About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Structural Engineer to join our team at Blue Origin. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for the design, analysis, development, testing, and qualification of propellant tanks for our New Glenn Upper Stage.

Key Responsibilities
  • Structural Design and Analysis: Develop and implement structural design and analysis techniques to ensure the integrity and safety of our launch vehicle propellant tanks.
  • Composite Structures and Adhesives: Design and develop composite structures and adhesive bonds for our propellant tanks, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  • Research and Development: Conduct research and development activities to improve the design and performance of our propellant tanks, including the development of new materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Testing and Qualification: Plan, conduct, and analyze tests to qualify our propellant tanks for flight, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing, and testing, to ensure seamless integration and delivery of our propellant tanks.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, or related field) and 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience: Proven experience in structural design and analysis, composite structures, and adhesive bonds, with a strong understanding of launch vehicle systems and regulations.
  • Skills: Strong mechanical design skills, experience with Creo and CATIA V5, and ability to conduct structural analysis using classical hand-calculation and finite element techniques.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Industry Experience: Experience working in the aerospace industry, with a strong understanding of launch vehicle systems and regulations.
  • Technical Expertise: Demonstrated expertise in composite structures, adhesive bonds, and structural analysis, with experience working with industry-standard analysis codes.
  • Leadership: Proven leadership skills, with experience leading cross-functional teams and managing projects.
