Vitamin and Body Care Department Assistant Job Description

Overview:

The Vitamin and Body Care Department Assistant plays a vital role in the success of our vitamin and body care departments. As a key member of our team, you will assist the department managers in maintaining the highest level of customer service and ensuring the departments are fully stocked and visually appealing.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional customer service and a positive shopping experience for our customers.
  • Assist department managers in ordering and maintaining accurate inventory levels.
  • Merchandise shelves, endcaps, and dynamic displays to create an inviting shopping environment.
  • Assist in managing and participating in tagging, facing, rotating, cleaning, markdowns, stocking, and backstock.
  • Conduct active and passive demos to educate customers about our products.
  • Support store opening and closing activities, including Daily Sales Report (DSR) and cash handling and cashier closeout responsibilities.
  • Handle register functions, including backup cashiering, managing customer returns, addressing customer complaints, and covering register shift changes.
  • Maintain the safety and security of customers and employees.
  • Answer customer questions per company standards and policies.
  • Continually increase product knowledge and stay up-to-date on new products and promotions.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent preferred.
  • 1 year of experience in grocery or retail environment preferred; natural foods background is a plus.
  • 1 year of experience supervising others preferred.
  • 1 year of experience in vitamins/supplements preferred.
  • Ability to pass food safety training courses and/or certifications as required by law and maintain compliance by keeping certifications up to date and registered if applicable.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities and stay focused on tasks.
  • Excellent customer service skills and a sense of urgency in completing tasks.
  • Highly organized with great attention to detail.
  • Ability to take direction and follow through.
  • Must be cashier trained and able to count currency.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Physical Capabilities and Environmental Demands:

The Vitamin and Body Care Department Assistant must be able to constantly lift or carry up to 10 lbs., frequently lift or carry 11-20 lbs., and occasionally lift or carry 21-50 lbs. They must also be able to occasionally lift or carry lbs. with a team lift. The ability to frequently push or pull up to 15 lbs. and occasionally push or pull lbs. is also required. The Vitamin and Body Care Department Assistant must be able to constantly walk, stand, use fine motor manipulations, grip, bend, twist, turn, and reach outward for the duration of the work shift. They must also be able to frequently reach above chest and occasionally sit, squat, kneel, and climb as needed.

Environmental Requirements:

The Vitamin and Body Care Department Assistant must be able to frequently work with sharp tools and equipment, dust, fumes, and congested worksites. They must also be able to occasionally work with noise, cold, heat, wet, humid, outside, heights, and contact stress.
