Job Summary

This position will be responsible for executing an academic advisement strategy that supports the retention, progression, and graduation of students across several degree programs in Clayton State University's Center for Advising and Retention.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor and advise students on their academic progress, providing guidance on course selection, program requirements, and registration procedures.
  • Develop and implement academic advisement strategies to support student retention and graduation.
  • Provide excellent customer service and high-quality advising assistance to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure students receive accurate and timely information about academic programs and policies.
  • Conduct orientation sessions for incoming students and provide informational outreach to various classes and student groups.
  • Audit student records for curriculum, major, and graduation requirements, and advise students on appropriate actions.
  • Refers students with academic discrepancies to proper officials for further action.
  • Assist in the preparation of special reports relating to enrollment and related matters.
  • Evaluate and maintain student records for degree requirements using an academic evaluation system.
Requirements

Minimum of a Bachelor's degree with 3-5 years in higher education. Master's degree preferred.

Knowledge of student information systems, academic fields for advising disciplines, and Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent oral and written communication skills, effective organizational skills, and time management skills.

Ability to work flexible schedules, including some evenings and Saturdays. Ability to encourage and motivate students to overcome obstacles and achieve goals.
