Medical Laboratory Technician

This is a contract job opportunity with potential for permanent placement. The position is located in Shelby, NC, and the schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5:30pm.
Job Summary:The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, including troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. The ideal candidate will have experience in blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, and decontamination.
Responsibilities:- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
- Properly explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection to patients.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
- Package specimens for transport.
- Store specimen samples according to required temperature.
- Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Attend annual department trainings.
- Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where employed.
- Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Pediatrics experience.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 2-4+ years of experience.
