Key Responsibilities

Utilize advanced skills in arrhythmia identification and cardiovascular diagnostics while conducting holter scans, assisting with Cardiac Exercise Stress testing, and cardiac rehabilitation. Perform pediatric 15 lead ECGs, Specialty ECGs, Rhythm Strips, and Atrial Electrograms.

Engage directly with patients, nurses, physicians, and staff in both outpatient and inpatient acute care environments. Collaborate closely with the Cardiac Diagnostic team to ensure seamless patient care.

Essential Duties

Conduct EKGs, atrial electrograms, rhythm strips, exercise testing, holter monitor scanning/testing, Ambulatory Blood Pressure testing, and event recorders under the supervision of a cardiology provider. Clearly explain procedures to patients and caregivers in an understandable manner and perform tests with precision and confidence.

Ensure timely availability for patients upon arrival for their procedures to prevent delays. Communicate findings promptly and accurately to the appropriate medical personnel. Review preliminary results and direct test outcomes to the relevant physician/staff.

Depending on staffing assignments, manage the EKG study component of exercise tests. Coordinate the efficient flow of tests/procedures, scheduling, and completion in clinical, inpatient, or pulmonary lab settings to meet the needs of patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.

Adjust workload based on patient priorities and flexibly manage tasks to align with patient needs. Travel as necessary to various healthcare facilities and outreach clinics, as well as newly contracted sites.

Training and Administration

Educate and train other healthcare professionals, providers, and technicians on device usage and equipment operation. Maintain patient files, prepare and distribute final reports, and accurately enter charges for services rendered.

Prepare Holter reports with a turnaround time of 24-48 hours. Organize and manage the cardiac device waiting list, coordinating the dispatch of routine devices with care teams and families.

Fit and apply 24-hour ABP monitors and process 24-hour ABP study reports upon device return. Ensure the accuracy and completeness of study data by tracking Holter monitor and event recorder patients.

Enter charges into the hospital computer system promptly and maintain patient diagnostic information on spreadsheets. Provide statistical information to relevant individuals within established timeframes.

Equipment Management

Perform various functions to ensure appropriate supply levels and conduct routine maintenance on equipment. Identify and troubleshoot equipment issues, arranging for necessary repairs, and maintain adequate stock levels by ordering supplies as needed.

Keep EKG carts stocked and clean, routinely delete outdated records from the EKG system, and manage the inventory of Holters, event recorders, and stress test supplies.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D Required. Experience: Preferred experience working with children and a minimum of 1 year in an outpatient Cardiology/Cardiac Diagnostics setting, as well as acute care. Familiarity with pediatric EKGs and event monitors is also preferred.

Skills and Competencies

Knowledge of EKG, Holter scanning, and stress testing is essential. Familiarity with Spacelabs Holter and ABP monitors is desirable. Basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology are required.

Advanced ECG recognition and experience performing 15 lead pediatric ECGs are necessary. The ability to identify arrhythmias and abnormalities on ECGs/Holter recordings is crucial. Availability for on-call duties as needed is expected.

Licenses and Certifications

BCLS - Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association is required. CCT - Certified Cardiographic Technician certification must be obtained within 1 year, or Certified Rhythm Analysis Technician (CRAT) certification is also acceptable within the same timeframe. Successful completion of an arrhythmia recognition exam during the interview process is required.

ACLS - Current and valid Advanced Cardio Life Support certification is preferred, along with PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification. Completion of 30 CEUs every 3 years to maintain certification is mandatory.
