We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative individual for the position of Assistant Professor of Weed Ecology at South Dakota State University. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a nationally recognized, externally funded research program in weed science, with a focus on weed ecology, biology, and the development of sustainable weed management systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop a nationally recognized, externally funded research program in weed science, including weed ecology, biology, and the development of sustainable weed management systems.
  • Conduct basic and applied research to solve weed management problems in conventional and organic cropping systems.
  • Work closely and cooperatively with multi-state researchers and government agencies in related fields.
  • Undergraduate and graduate level teaching and mentoring is expected.
  • Publication of research results in peer-reviewed journals is required.
Research Areas:
  • Devising and testing integrated weed management strategies in conventional and organic production systems.
  • Developing alternative, ecologically sound strategies to manage herbicide-resistant weeds.
  • Investigating how climate change impacts weed management practices and the evolution of weed species.
  • Incorporating precision agriculture technologies into management strategies of herbicide-resistant weeds.
Requirements:
  • Ph.D. in Agronomy, Weed Science, Plant Science, Ecology, or closely related discipline.
  • Potential to pursue and obtain competitive funding.
  • Potential to publish in peer-reviewed academic journals.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • University teaching experience.
  • Postdoctoral experience, or international equivalent, with independent or team-focused research is preferred.
