Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Animal Technician to join our team at Dartmouth College. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing specific care to laboratory animals in a safe and sanitary manner, in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, guidelines, and policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide daily care and handling of laboratory animals, including observing and maintaining awareness of their physical needs and condition.
  • Communicate with principal investigators and their technical staff regarding the status of research animals.
  • Administer medications under the direction of a veterinarian and euthanize animals as needed.
  • Maintain the sanitary condition of animals and their environment, including cleaning cages and preparing caging and equipment for animal care.
  • Perform light maintenance of facilities, including replacement of bulbs and preventative maintenance of washers.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus 1-2 years of experience in animal care or a related field.
  • Ability to apply procedures for the care and handling of laboratory animals.
  • Capacity to safely and efficiently lift and transport equipment or feed packages of up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work weekend and holiday schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Compliance and training experience.
  • Successful completion of the AALAS Laboratory Animal Technician certification.
